There is nothing like racing to take your mind off the world around you. The day started as a typical saturday morning with the girls up and out of bed before the sun rose. Fall in Colorado, you just never know what your going to get weather wise. Today 75 degree Blue Sky fever. Just Awesome. At Peanut and honey sandwich, cup of home brew coffee, banana and a power bar and I was off for a 9:35am start. I hate early starts. The 40 year old motor takes some time to get going. Cat 4 mens was about 45 plus dudes all amped to spin for 45 minutes. I was able to jump out to an ok start about 10th. Felt strong until the first sand jump off where I dropped a chain and about 20 spots. Brutal. Still jumped on a wheel put my head down and cranked out 45 minutes to a 12 place finish. Practicing the JPowers clinic thoughts from the thursday before that worked. Still want to win. Went back to the car, grabbed some water an apple and some rest to do it all again at 1 pm for the 35+4's. I was ready and had some legs for this ride. Great start (5th) and off I chugged. It was awesome to have The BlueSkyVelo club yelling at me and I think my buddy Zac was throwing down a shout as well. Rolled around on lap three to my little e&m yelling at me and I was motivated to push. rode in 3rd until dropping a chain again on the boat dock went to 5th then passed them back in the sand only to do a head dive into the barriers on the last lap and sprint. THAT SUCKS. Twisted the ankle and broke a finger in the crash but didn't notice until I finished in 8th. Best part of the day was a picnic with the family by the car after the race. Kids make it all go round in a fun way.
